Destin, Fl.-- Wine enthusiasts and aficionados, gourmets and gourmands, philanthropists and successful friends will combine talents and passions to create an unparalleled weekend at the “Wine and Dine in Paradise”extravaganzaon April 11 and 12, 2008.
Spectacular charity wine auctions and the names Napa, Naples and Nashville are often thought to be synonymous. When thinking premiere events, one usually does not think the Florida panhandle. But this is no usual event.
With the likes of such internationally acclaimed celebrity vintners as France’s Laurent Drouhin of Joseph Drouhin & Domaine Drouhin and Marc Perrin of Chateau de Beaucastel, Williams Selyem’s Bob Cabral, Dan Kosta of Kosta-Browne, Oregon’s Grace and Ken Evenstad of Domaine Serene, Australia’s Dan Philips and David Galzignato with Duckhorn Wine Company, to name just a few; northwest Florida’s Emerald Coast is fast becoming revered as the premier venue for the quintessential charity wine event of the year.
Exquisite wines poured and paired with the most innovative culinary masterpieces created by world-renowned chefs Chris Wilson of Emeril’s New Orleans, Tory McPhail of Commander’s Palace, Fleming’s National Corporate Executive Chef, Russell Skall, legendary chef extraordinaire Norman Van Aken of Tavern N Town, and more offer the true wine enthusiast a once in a lifetime experience.
What’s the secret? A unique and most unexpected fusion of pure sophistication and southern charm combined with the fun and relaxed ambience of the seaside. Add to the mix the world’s greatest vintners, culinary masters, exhilarating auctions, pristine sugar-white beaches and the opportunity to positively impact the lives of needy children and you’ve got the recipe for success.
Simply put, this event brings together those with a passion for children, wine, food, good living and fun!
“I do wine auctions all over the country and this event just makes me nuts it’s so much fun. If you can be apart of this, if you can pull this off, you will not regret it” says David Long, Owner, David Arthur Vineyards.
Presiding as Honorary Chair Persons for this year’s event as are Garen and Shari Staglin of the renowned Staglin Family Vineyard. Known world-wide for not only their exceptional award-winning wines, but also for their incredible philanthropic efforts, the Staglins lend even more credence to the exceptional caliber of this premiere event.
“There are many charity events that we could be involved with, but none are nearly as important to us where we feel we can make a difference. It’s a unique and fabulous location where we can spend several days in a wonderful environment with great people committed to a great cause- -what’s not to love about that!,” says Garen Staglin.
For many, the signature event of the Wine and Dine in Paradise weekend is Friday evening’s Patron Dinners. Hosted in the most exquisite private homes along the Emerald Coast, each dinner pairs celebrity vintners with internationally recognized chefs forging an unforgettable evening rich in flavor, taste and excitement.
The weekend’s centerpiece event is Saturday’s Walkabout and Auction uncorking countless possibilities as the bidding gets fast and frenzied for rare and distinctive wines, spectacular trips and one-of-a-kind items. With glasses raised in one hand and bidding paddles in the other, guests will enhance the lives of children who not only impact our lives and our communities, but who will someday impact our world.
“I think my favorite part of the weekend is the excitement of all of the incredible impromptu offerings that come up during the auction. Winners are never predictable, but great wine and great fun always is,” says Todd Vucovich, Executive Director, Destin Charity Wine Auction Foundation.
“The exceptional thing about the Destin auction is the people who put on the event and the participants in the event are all on the cutting edge. It really does transcend generations,” says Dan Kosta, Owner, Kosta-Browne Winery.
Set at the world-class Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, the “Wine and Dine in Paradise” event is a grand celebration with a purpose. In less than two short years from inception, the charity wine auction has already become the region’s most successful charity event raising more than one million dollars for some of the nations’ most innovative and important children’s charitable organizations.
Through this year’s beneficiary charities, Children in Crisis, Inc., Ronald McDonald House of northwest Florida, Lighthouse Family Retreat and Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation; event proceeds will help to build new homes in a children’s foster care neighborhood providing stability and happiness where there once was none, provide a comfortable bed and warm smile for families of a child receiving potential live-saving medical treatments far from home or enable children with cancer and their families to enjoy a seashore retreat where they can laugh, love and regain hope.
“From the onset, our mission has been to connect wine enthusiasts to raise money for children in need. We are extremely pleased with our achievements thus far and anticipate that the 2008 event will far exceed previous contributions and truly turn success into significance for countless children,” says Destin Charity Wine Auction Foundation Chairman Lamar Conerly.
One weekend of festivities truly can create a lifetime worth of benefits for children in need. So come to Wine and Dine in Paradise and give hope to those who need it most.
